February 2012
I may not be on for a few days as  I have to rethink my plans for the next two years and how far into academia I want to go.

So does someone want to explain what I’m missing about Stratfor? As far as I can tell, they’re basically an overrated private intelligence group that has tried to bill itself as a private CIA but they produce pretty useless intelligence. So far nothing interesting has come out of the emails. What exactly am I missing?

– Max Fisher on Stratfor and Wikileaks I haven’t seen anything actually surprising so far in this. (Israel behind Stuxnet? Shocker. Banks laundering drug money? No kidding.) Stratfor seems to be relatively unimportant and more intent on selling itself than actually doing real intelligence work....

After Voting For Tuition Hike, Arizona State... →
Last week, an Arizona House Committee approved a bill requiring even the poorest students to pay a minimum of $2,000 per year to attend public university in the Grand Canyon State. Arizona Republicans took up the measure, HB 2675, after hearing that nearly half of students at Arizona State University did not pay tuition in the 2009-10 school year, whether due to financial aid need or...

– Brent Bozell Evidently, Obama took office in 1970, as that was the last time that the US produced 10 million barrels a day. This is the modern GOP: We will make up whatever batshit lies we want to and we’ll get away with it by going on Fox.

Sometimes I read the absolute most awful commentary on Tumblr. And the person always acts as if they are presenting some unknown insight. “Hold on, sailor. You’re telling me that maybe mythology wasn’t true and perhaps the Trojan war story wasn’t real? Tell me more; did Odysseus really blind Polyphemus? “

The Muslim Fundamentalist Palestinian party-militia Hamas, based largely in the Gaza Strip has abruptly broken with its long-time patron, Syria. The leadership has scattered from its offices in Syria to elsewhere in the region, especially Egypt and Qatar. Hamas, although considered an international terrorist group by Washington, is actually just a local, organized resistance movement on ...

Newt Gingrich continued to put his entire lack of logic on display on Thursday, when he criticized President Obama for apologizing for the desecration of the Qur’an at Bagram Base. Gingrich said Obama had not similarly sought an apology from Afghan president Hamid Karzai for the killing of two US soldiers by a uniformed Afghanistan National Army soldier. But Obama’s apology was intended...

The Constitution provides that acts of Congress “shall be the supreme law of the land” which is why states do not have the power to ignore federal law. Nevertheless, five Georgia state senators — including Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R) and senate President Pro Tempore Tommie Williams (R) — apparently do not believe that the Constitution applies to them. All five lawmakers introduced a...
