I think there are conservatives who aren’t just batshit scary, but still embrace awful principles. It kind of depends on what you define as acceptable. I hope that 2016 comes out with a more centrist Republican. It’s not healthy for the country to have the GOP we have now and Obama. Americans don’t like having a party in office for > 8 years, so we’ll probably see a GOPer elected 2016 (assuming Obama wins.) In that case, I would prefer to see someone who can accept global warming and evolution.

Overall, though, as long as politicians from both sides embrace neoliberalism, we’re fucked. It’s simply a matter of how bad the fall will be.
