The ’80s too. The whole scene reminds me how the Democrats couldn’t come up with a viable presidential candidate in the ’80s.

The main difference I see is that in the 70s and 80s, conservatives were a new political force. Now, the Democrats aren’t really in a similar position. They’ve just really benefited from having one of the worst presidents in modern history before them and an incredibly popular candidate in Obama.
